Over time there is progression from taught sailing to ‘Race Coaching’ and members who have passed Stage 1 can join in the Sunday coaching sessions and races. These sessions take the Juniors right through from Club Sailing, to local events and through to the RYA Zone squads. Along the way a lot of fun is had with Pirates Days, Family Camping, and summer activities.

Young sailors are positively encouraged and welcome to join in with all Club activities. Sailors without boats of their own can use the club's fleet of race rigged Toppers, Optimists, RS Teras, Laser Pico, RS Feva, Hartley H12/2 or the Club's Laser Radial or 4.7

There is a very friendly and active youth section, with high quality coaching for the beginner and improver throughout the season. The Club is a leading member of the Northamptonshire Junior Circuit and regularly sends representatives to major national youth events such as the Eric Twiname National Junior Finals and National Schools Regatta.

The club has several members in RYA Zone Squads, and the National Youth Squads.

NEW YOUTH RACES

Hollowell afternoon racing from Sunday 23rd June - 13th Oct. AUTUMN SUNDAY U17 YOUTH SERIES 13:15 & 15:00 (races to start 5 minutes after Autumn Sunday afternoon races)

P & B - Northamptonshire Youth Series Dates (2024 date not ready)

  • Saturday May - Draycote
  • Saturday June - Hollowell
  • Saturday July - Banbury
  • Saturday August - Northampton
  • Sunday September - Cransley

These events are aimed for all abilities from the very inexperienced to the better sailor. The emphasis is on having a go rather than winning. The format is always training in the morning and racing in the afternoon.

There are lots of opportunities for juniors to sail in events in the Midlands: the fixture list (above) summarises these including Optimist and Topper events and the P & B series that is for any junior class boat. Two of the events are at Hollowell so it would be great to get a good turn out from Hollowell sailors for these events. Most of these events are less than an hour away from Hollowell so well within reach for a day trip. If it’s anyone’s first time sailing away from the club and they want some advice or want to borrow a boat they can contact Graham Smith
