Goodbye Old Committee Boat

Old Committee boat you served as well.
But your time has come, and we must sell.
To Neil perhaps -or Ebay, 99p- (or less).
Unloved, forgotten (and NO, that’s not the Commodore).
Your glory days have long gone passed.
When racing flags flew proudly from your mast.
And is this how it ends for us too?
“Here’s a pound. Keep the change.”
“Do let us know how you get on”
“Cheerio. Goodbye, Adieu”.

But old friend you were actually a pain.
Nowhere to shelter in the rain.
The inside was smelly and damp.
The race officer and crew would get cramp.
Will we miss you? – Oh! I think not.
You should have been named ‘Mr Grot’.
I wonder though, what glory awaits thee.
Perhaps, done up pretty and taken to the sea.
I pause - and I see what I see - and I think not
‘Stans the Man’ and you were not
You, forever, will be ‘Mr Grot’.

A Summer Sail

A canvas kissed by golden light.
Our water a mirror, calm and bright.
Where sunbeams dance on waves that roll,
A sailor's heart, completely whole.
The gentle breeze, a whispered song.
As sails unfurl, the day moves along.
The vessel glides with graceful ease.
A moment caught, a heart at peace.
The sun, a beacon in the blue.
A warmth that seeps right through and through.
A timeless dance, as the boat makes way.
On Hollowell in a perfect day.

On an vintage wooden boat FB site, a healthy discussion on the question "What are the characteristics of a clinker boat?" ended abruptly when someone answered "....the gentle swoosh of water around your feet"!

Would these sails be 'in class' on a Solo, asking for a friend?

# Isn't that just an Oppi before they went one design?

# So long as the mast gate is of the correct dimensions....

# Is that a plastic or wooden hull? Either way I sure the Solo Association will retrospectively change the rules for you...ouch!

New Phantom too much string - no room for the helm.

# Knit one, purl one, gybe and pray

# There's a square foot at the back for the helm.
