Topper Inlands - 3/4 May - Grafham
We had 6 boats at the Topper National Inland Championships this weekend, most had their first taste at such a large event - 240 boats in the main fleet!
Arran Holman competed well on the first day in
the 4.2 National Championships held for the first time this year and came
17th. It could have been so much better had he been able to make it for the
second day.
Jason
Robbins, on the other hand, only managed the second day as he was recovering
from food poisoning but got great results in the main fleet in his two
races, including a 20th.
Sarah Small was the best of the two
girls, finishing in the top half of the main fleet. Natasha de la Fuente and
James Walker found themselves being swallowed by so many boats and didn't do
quite as well.
Top performance was from Hugh Brayshaw who
sailed brilliantly to come 5th overall.

Young sailors are positively encouraged and welcome to join in with all Club activities. Sailors without boats of their own can use the club's fleet of 6 race rigged Toppers, Optimists, Feva, or the Club's Laser Radial. There is a very friendly and active youth section, with high quality coaching for the beginner and improver throughout the season. The Club is a leading member of the Northamptonshire Junior Circuit and regularly sends representatives to major national youth events such as the Eric Twiname National Junior Finals and National Schools Regatta. The club has several members in RYA Zone Squads, and the National Youth Squads. 2008 Youth and Junior Activities We are planning an even more active season following a very successful 2007. We managed to combine successful race training with some fun-packed weekends culminating in the much-enjoyed Junior Regatta. The major change for this year is the main junior sessions will now take place on a Sunday morning running from 9.30 – 12.30 and have been set so that there will be some activity for juniors at the club every fortnight from 6 April. The Sunday morning sessions will be in two groups Racing Squad and Inters. Our aim is for everybody to get into the Racing Squad eventually, but the Inters’ sessions will be made up of some guided, fun-filled sessions to develop the sailing skills of the less experienced sailors and those who have just done their RYA Start Sailing courses. Youngsters can use their own boats or club boats will be available. There is no charge for these sessions, but parents are expected to stay at the Club and be available to assist on or off the water. A programme of specific activities will be published in due course, but dates for the diary are as follows:
The Junior Regatta and Fun Day is set for 31 August for all the kids, not just those who can sail. Big events at Hollowell when we expect juniors to visit us from other clubs and when parents will be asked to help with some of the organising and hosting:
Don’t forget the Junior Week in the School Holidays when youngsters can have three days mucking about in boats (Mon. 28th –Wed. 30th July) and three days mucking about on boards (Thu. 31st July- Sat. 2nd August). A superb week and fantastic value. (See the training calendar for booking details.) |
